The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The focus of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

This annual carol service will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
